Blizzard of 2015: A Picturesque Winter Wonderland

I love summer just as much as much as the next girl but I also really enjoy winter. Last Monday when I was watching the news, they kept mentioning this "epic blizzard" that was heading our way. Of course, I thought they were hyping it up because let's be honest - New Yorkers can be a little dramatic. In Colorado, everyone cheered when a huge snow storm was in the forecast b/c then that meant that everyone was heading up to the mountains for the weekend to get some skiing/snowboarding in. Here in New York...not so much - I heard a lot of complaining from people after the first few inches fell. But they were right - it was epic indeed and it did not spare the Hamptons whatsoever. I know ...

Blizzard of 2015: A Picturesque Winter Wonderland

My husband and I are currently preparing our home and lives for our next big adventure - the arrival of our baby girl. Over the years, I've discovered a lot of creative ways to photograph and document the lives of countless families but now, it's my turn to photograph ours. The pressure's on! There are so many fun and interesting ways to photograph a newborn or toddler from a photographer's perspective but the creativity that I've seen from mothers photographing their own children has been amazing to me. I'm in awe of their photographs. Here are a two in particular that I'd like to share with you:1) Mother/Photographer's Name: Jessica Shyba- A little background information: The ...

Blizzard of 2015: A Picturesque Winter Wonderland

As a child, I dabbled in a lot of artistic fields. I loved to draw, photograph, dance, sing... basically if it had anything to do with self expression as an artform, I was interested. When I finally got older and got accepted to college, I found myself stuck with a very common dielmma: "What do I want to spend the rest of my life doing?" I decided to be a Fine Art major b/c who was I kidding - I quickly discovered that deep down, I'm a total introvert and just getting up infront of the a capella groups to audition freaked me out; Stage fright = 1, Julie = 0. So, quiet art it was! When I graduated from college after taking scultpture classes, figure drawing classes, color design ...

Memories & Experiences - Does social media interfere?

Blizzard of 2015: A Picturesque Winter Wonderland

I've been seeing a lot of articles lately about how people are taking pictures and posting all about their day, nights out, trips, etc...but aren't really living through the moments. Is photography really destroying the way we experience our real lives or is it purely social media's fault? On the up side, I do love Facebook & Instagram. I love being able to catch up with friends easily and see images from around the world in real time but I understand the arguement. Going on a trip and taking tons of pictures of the beach but not actually enjoying it (swimming, kayaking, playing with your significant other or kids in the water, etc...) is pointless. I get that. Just like ...

Blizzard of 2015: A Picturesque Winter Wonderland

I’ve had the travel bug ever since I was a little girl. In my mind, this world is just too big and too amazing to stay and live in just one place. I want to travel, explore, adventure…Travel has allowed me to experience life more fully. My parents took us all over when we were younger so that we could learn and experience other cultures, countries, etc… These experiences abroad really sparked my interest in other cultures and languages; especially Italian. I was given the opportunity to study Art & Italian abroad in Florence, Italy in college which really set fire to my curiosity. When I moved back to NYC, I felt incomplete. When my husband and I got married in 2010, ...
